Women in Photography Exhibit 2024
WIVA presented the debut Women in Photography 📸 art exhibit on display from March 1-30, 2024 at the Lake Travis Community Library in celebration of Women’s History Month. This exhibit featured thirty photographs from eleven local photographers, showcasing their diverse perspectives and talents as well as compelling photographic portraits of women subjects. Artist Reception took place on on Saturday March 9th from 1:30-3pm.
The reason for this exhibit was to celebrate the annual Women’s History Month through creative photographic expressions highlighting women’s history, issues, and rights. Photographers of all ages were encouraged to explore themes of voting, equality, health, beauty, motherhood, and more, whether through abstract or realistic photographic representations. Photographs of all styles and genres, including portraiture, landscape, documentary, abstract, and more were considered. Photographs that explored the female experience, challenge stereotypes, and showcase equality were of particular interest. To be a part of the exhibit, the entrant had to either be a woman photographer residing in the Austin area OR submit a photo with a woman as the main subject.
Photographers included: David Campbell, Summer Everill, Keane Fairchild, Rosemary Galloway, Bill Galloway, Christy Hampton, Kim Ortiz, Owen Riener, Secily Spain, Debbi Varela and VELD.
